AC Offset Killer

PrimaLuna’s AC Offset Killer reduces transformer noise caused by irregularities in the mains supply. Combined with custom-wound toroidal transformers, it creates a quieter background that reveals greater space, texture and natural musical decay.

 

Premium Takman Resistors

Japanese-made Takman resistors are selected for their low noise, linearity and musical performance. These premium components form part of PrimaLuna’s uncompromising approach to construction and sound quality.

 

Dual Toroidal Power Transformers

Two massive, custom-made toroidal transformers minimise magnetic interference, vibration and acoustic noise. Each transformer is enclosed in metal and potted in non-microphonic resin to protect its windings from moisture and deterioration. This substantial construction contributes to the preamplifier’s 53-pound weight.

 

Dual-Mono Tube Rectification

Two 5AR4 rectifier tubes provide quiet, all-tube power regulation in a dual-mono configuration. This design lowers the noise floor while producing a natural, textured presentation with impressive depth and dimensionality.

 

Japanese Alps Blue Velvet Potentiometer

Rather than using a digital volume-control chip, PrimaLuna uses the renowned motorised Alps Blue Velvet analogue potentiometer. Its precise channel tracking and quiet operation preserve a smooth, natural signal.

 

SuperQuiet Line Inputs

Premium sealed relays are positioned close to the rear-panel inputs to keep the signal path exceptionally short. Only the selected input relay closes, while the others remain isolated to prevent unwanted signals and noise from entering the audio path.

 

Point-to-Point Wiring

The entire signal path, including its resistors and capacitors, is meticulously hand-wired by skilled craftspeople using heavy-gauge cable. EVO 300 and EVO 400 models also use Swiss-made, silver-plated oxygen-free copper wire.

 

No Internal DAC or Phono Stage

Keeping rapidly changing digital technology and specialised phono circuitry outside the preamplifier allows you to select components that suit your sources, cartridge and budget. This modular approach also helps the preamplifier remain relevant for years to come.

 

Dual-Mono Design

Each channel uses its own power transformer, regulation circuitry and signal path, effectively placing two discrete preamplifiers within one chassis. This separation improves channel isolation, stereo imaging and the overall sense of space.

 

DiaLogue Front-End Circuitry

The DiaLogue Premium uses three 12AU7 tubes per channel to reduce distortion and increase bandwidth. Four driver tubes provide greater voltage swing, while the two central input tubes can be changed to explore the sonic character of different tube brands.

 

SmartGain Design

With a carefully selected gain of 10 dB, SmartGain provides the amplification most systems need without introducing unnecessary noise. The lower gain also reduces the audible effects of imperfect or microphonic tubes, making it especially suitable for high-efficiency loudspeakers.

 

PerfectMatch

PrimaLuna’s PerfectMatch circuit presents a consistent 100k-ohm input impedance to connected source components. This helps compatible DACs, phono stages and other sources—particularly tube-based models—perform at their best.
