If a tube fails, Adaptive AutoBias immediately places the amplifier into protection mode to help prevent damage. A red LED identifies the tube requiring replacement, making maintenance quick and straightforward.

Custom Toroidal Power Transformers

PrimaLuna uses massive, custom-made toroidal power transformers to minimise magnetic interference, vibration and acoustic noise. Each transformer is enclosed in metal and potted in non-microphonic resin to protect its windings from moisture and long-term deterioration.

Custom Wide-Bandwidth Output Transformers

PrimaLuna’s output transformers are custom-designed and wound in-house to provide extended bass, open high frequencies and powerful, controlled sound. Their wide bandwidth allows the amplifier to prioritise musical performance while operating its tubes conservatively.

Adaptive AutoBias

Adaptive AutoBias continuously monitors the output tubes and makes seamless adjustments in real time. The passive circuit sits outside the signal path, reduces distortion at higher listening levels and helps extend tube life with minimal maintenance.

Extensive Tube Compatibility

A fine-tuning switch optimises operation for EL34- and KT88-family tubes. Compatible options include 6L6G, 6L6GC, 7581A, EL34, EL37, 6550, KT66, KT77, KT88, KT90, KT120 and KT150, allowing you to tailor the amplifier’s character to your system.

Point-to-Point Wiring

The complete signal path, including its resistors and capacitors, is meticulously hand-wired by skilled craftspeople using heavy-gauge cable. This construction provides direct, durable connections without relying on thin circuit-board traces.

SmartWatts for Extended Tube Life

PrimaLuna operates its output tubes at approximately 417 volts across the plates and screens, using the minimum practical dissipation without introducing crossover distortion. This reduces tube stress, supports longer operating life and maintains excellent sound quality.
