If a tube fails, Adaptive AutoBias immediately places the amplifier into protection mode to prevent damage. A red LED identifies the tube that needs replacing, allowing you to install a new tube and resume listening without guesswork or manual adjustment.

Custom Toroidal Power Transformer

Every PrimaLuna amplifier uses a massive, custom-made toroidal power transformer. Its low magnetic radiation and reduced acoustic noise help preserve musical detail, while a metal enclosure and non-microphonic resin protect the windings from vibration, moisture and long-term deterioration.

Custom Wide-Bandwidth Output Transformers

Output transformers have a major influence on the frequency range and overall performance of a tube amplifier. PrimaLuna’s custom transformers are designed and wound in-house to deliver extended bass, open high frequencies and powerful, controlled sound.

Adaptive AutoBias

PrimaLuna’s Adaptive AutoBias uses an array of sensors to monitor the output tubes and make continuous adjustments in real time. It also addresses tube pinch-off at higher listening levels, helping reduce distortion and extend tube life. The passive system sits outside the signal path for low-maintenance operation without compromising sound quality.

Point-to-Point Wiring

The entire signal path is meticulously hand-wired by skilled craftspeople using heavy-gauge cable. This point-to-point construction avoids the thin copper traces commonly found on circuit boards and provides a direct, durable connection between key components.

No Internal DAC or Phono Stage

PrimaLuna keeps rapidly changing digital technology and specialised phono circuitry outside the amplifier. This allows you to select a separate DAC or phono stage that suits your source equipment, cartridge and budget while helping the amplifier remain relevant for years to come.

SmartWatts for Extended Tube Life

PrimaLuna operates its output tubes at carefully controlled plate and screen voltages, using the minimum practical dissipation without introducing crossover distortion. This approach reduces stress on the tubes, supports longer operating life and maintains excellent sound quality without pursuing inflated power figures.
