MM cartridge system
The DP-500BT uses a moving-magnet cartridge system with a specified output of 2.5mV when the internal phono equaliser is switched off. Denon specifies an optimum tracking force of 2.0g.

The replacement stylus is the Denon DSN-85, making the wear component clearly identifiable when the stylus eventually requires replacement.

Built-in switchable phono preamplifier
A phono cartridge produces a much lower-level signal than a conventional line-level source, so a phono preamplifier is required somewhere in the system.

The DP-500BT has this stage built in and it can be switched on or off. With the equaliser switched on, the turntable can connect to a normal analogue line input on a compatible amplifier or powered speaker system.

Where the amplifier already has a suitable MM phono input, or where a dedicated external phono stage is being used, the built-in equaliser can be switched off so that the cartridge signal follows the appropriate phono signal path.

Belt-drive system
The DP-500BT uses a DC servo motor with belt drive. Denon positions the belt-drive system as part of its approach to isolating motor vibration from the platter and preserving stable playback.

The platter itself is die-cast aluminium, providing a rigid rotating platform for the record.

33⅓, 45 and 78 RPM playback
Three playback speeds are supported: 33⅓, 45 and 78 RPM. This gives the DP-500BT flexibility across standard LPs, singles and compatible 78 RPM records.

When playing older records, cartridge and stylus suitability should still be considered for the particular record format rather than assuming one stylus profile is ideal for every record type.

System matching
