Description

RECALLING THE THORENS DNA

The TD 1600 bridges the gap between the tradition that made Thorens turntables world famous and the technology of the 21st century.
Outwardly very close to the earlier 160 series with a classic wooden frame, two-part plate with internal strap and thick rubber mat, arm board and acrylic cover, but inside it is full of innovations.

The three springs of the sub-chassis do not hang on the top board, but stand on the floor. At the same time, a tensioned steel thread in the extension of the motor roller – plate axis prevents lateral wobbling and thus ensures a piston-shaped oscillation of the sub-chassis even when starting when the motor power is strongest and the belt is pulling sideways on the plate axis.
The elaborate motor control ensures a constant speed with exact synchronization.

The TD 1601 is the consistent further development of the TD 1600 in the direction of enhanced ease of use. It has a classic wooden frame, the two-part plate with internal belt and thick rubber mat, an elaborately controlled motor, arm board and acrylic cover, and the interior is also full of innovations and offers additional convenience functions for operation. In addition, it offers the convenience of an electric lift that can be operated at the push of a button, a contactless limit switch and fully symmetrical outputs.

“The Thorens name has been associated with turntables for almost 120 years, and while the TD 1601 has a look reflecting classic turntables of the past, under the skin it’s all new. It retains the three-point sprung suspension of the TD150 of the 1960s, but brings the company’s latest decoupled synchronous motor for speed accuracy, and an electric arm-lift and end of side stop for convenient playback. A fully manual version of the deck, the TD 1600, is also offered. All this plus a balanced audio output alongside the usual connections, for even lower noise, makes for a turntable that combines heritage with bang-up-to-date sound quality”.
